At Fausko Guesthouse, we are proud of our local food traditions. Hallingkost – the food and food culture from the area of hallingdal, served before the time of grocery shop, were a part of the everyday life. But food culture is also being created today. Therefore, we also look ahead and create new products based on old knowledge. New combinations create new tastes and experiences and become “local foods for global palates”.
- SmåmatSmåmat is a partydinner tradition in Hallingdal. In order to call Småmat as party food, everything must be cut in small bites. In addition, the forces must be clear. Meat is a mixture of fresh beef meat, sheep’s beak and cured ham.
At Fausko, homemade small food is served with two types of flad bread from a local bakery.
- RakfiskRakfisk is made from self-caught mountain trout from the lake Vavatn. Only the finest and fatest fish with golden red meat color go to the production. The fish is salted and refrigerated for 3 months
- Cured meatsCured meats has been a part of Norwegian food culture for over a thousand years! At Fausko Skysstasjon we are proud to be able to maintain and carry on genuine Norwegian cured meats tradition. Herbal sausage for own recipe, turkey and smoked beef, local cheeses, served with root crust, potato salad, scrambled eggs and flat bread.
Støls food
When people back in the day went to “støls”, it was to work. Often very long days and early hours meant the food that was required had to be full of taste and nutrition.
